One new patent The app suggests that Samsung is working on moving its stabilization from the lens of its cameras to the sensor. Switching from current optical image stabilization to sensor stabilization can improve image quality and reduce blur. both the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and Apple iPhone 14 Pro use image stabilization in the cameras, but the iPhone stabilizes the sensor while the Galaxy phone stabilizes the lens.
We originally saw this as a rumor in 2021, while the Samsung Galaxy S22 was getting its first hints and leaks. at that time we reported that Samsung was testing this feature, and could also be part of a partnership with camera maker Olympus. This partnership never materialized, but now we are seeing possible fruits of the work.
A stabilizer on the sensor means a bigger bump
Apple was the first smartphone maker to use sensor stabilization, a technique closer to the way some high-end professional DSLR cameras like the Canon EOS R6, stabilize an image on the camera body and not just on the lens. Of course, on a smartphone the distance between the sensor and the lens is much smaller, but Apple believes that stabilizing the sensor produces a better photo.
This also means a bigger camera boost. Image stabilization relies on tiny motors that actually move the lens or sensor in response to an accelerometer – otherwise known as a gyroscope. It can be incredibly responsive, but it also takes up more space.
Adding the hardware closer to the sensor adds even more thickness, and you can see the dramatic camera bump difference between the iPhone 11Prothat did not use sensor stabilization, and the iPhone 12Proin which Apple debuted the feature.
Rumors suggest that this patent may apply specifically to the telephoto lens, but the actual patent does not mention this. Samsung already enhances its telephoto lens with digital tricks that produce incredible results, even at a jaw-dropping 100x zoom. Better stabilization would certainly equate to even greater improvements here.
Review: Probably not for the Galaxy S23 Ultra
As we said, this type of stabilization results in a larger camera boost. We’ve seen leaked footage of the rumors Galaxy S23 Ultra phone, and appears to have the same camera array design as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. This phone has five lenses on the back, but no protrusion.
It’s entirely possible that Samsung is hiding all the stabilization inside the phone. Samsung already hides an entire stylus inside the Galaxy S22 Ultra, and the phone is still waterproof sealed. with your Galaxy Z Flip 4 and folding family, has already proven contortionist skills when it comes to fixing phone casings.
Patents are a good way to check the direction of the industry, but a bad way to predict a specific product feature. We expect to see the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S phone constantly improve on the photos its predecessor took, if that’s possible. Eventually, a stabilized image sensor could be a way for Samsung to make that happen.
Ofertas Black Friday MacBook Pro: nossas previsões
Bem aqui!

The best browsers with built-in VPN offer a great way to protect your web browsing from snoopers. Especially if you are new to VPN technology and are a little intimidated by manually setting one up.
Using a browser that has a built-in VPN eliminates this concern. So there’s no need to find and install a browser extension, because everything you need is included in the package. And you often include privacy and browsing extras too, from ad and tracker blocking to enhanced private browsing, malware blocking, and more.
Browser-based VPNs don’t offer the security, performance, or unblocking abilities of a specialist provider like ExpressVPN or NordVPN. They are usually simple proxies, providing a new IP address but not encrypting your traffic, and they only protect the browser: traffic from other applications is still exposed.
But browser VPNs are also simple, often free, with no data caps, and often no registration required. If you’re happy with the privacy basics, they deserve a closer look.
We’ve reviewed four of the best, outlining each browser’s privacy and location settings, ease of use, speeds, data limits, and cost.
The best browsers with built-in VPN of 2022 in full
Ideal choice for those who need unlimited data
reasons to buy
No need to provide an email address
Easy to use
reasons to avoid
Unable to choose locations in a specific country
The Opera browser might not make the headlines these days, but it’s still a great product, packed with features and with over 350 million users worldwide.
One of the ways Opera stands out from the crowd is with the variety of tools bundled together in its default configuration. No need to install a single extension, the app provides ad blocking, messaging, file sharing and a simple VPN launched for free, no registration required.
These tools are often more capable than you’d expect too. Messaging isn’t a weak custom app only available in Opera, for example: you get Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram and VKontakte already integrated into Opera’s sidebar.
The VPN is a little more basic. It’s a more secure proxy than a true VPN, for example. And while you can pick a location, Opera only offers three very close locations: Americas, Europe, and Asia. Pick one, and Opera picks the best location at the time, which we think was both Mexico and the United States.
Speeds were still reasonable for us, at 30Mbps or so for US to UK connections. But when you can’t select a specific country, Opera is not good for unblocking or as a streaming VPN. Their service is really more about privacy than anything else.
Nothing wrong with a little extra privacy, of course, and you can’t expect a free VPN to compete with a specialist commercial provider like ExpressVPN. The reality is that Opera’s VPN adds some welcome extra value to the app, and if you’re satisfied with the basics of VPN browsing, it might be enough.

2. Aloha Browser
Best choice for smartphones
reasons to buy
A real VPN, not just a proxy
very simple to use
No data limits
reasons to avoid
Android and iOS only
Unable to choose a VPN location in the free version
Aloha Browser is an interesting Android and iOS browser with a free VPN and a stack of bonus privacy and media tools.
Secure File Manager? Check – Quickly download your files to custom folders and protect them with passwords or fingerprint.
Private browsing? No problems. Forget about cookies and history as ads and trackers are also blocked. Most. your browser tabs are given the same password or fingerprint protection.
Media manipulation? A built-in player streams just about anything, or you can download them as you watch. (And, of course, they can also be safely stored.)
There’s a real VPN underneath, not just a basic proxy, putting Aloha Browser ahead of the more limited proxy-based competition. And forget about annoying data caps as you can use the service as much as you want. But the free version doesn’t let you choose your location, it will just automatically choose the closest server.
As we say, however, Aloha only works on Android or iOS, making it null and void if you are after a VPN for Windows or VPN for Mac.
Upgrading to Aloha Premium offers a number of extras, including VPN country selection and the ability to secure other apps with VPN. It’s not expensive at $2.99 a month, but keep in mind that Private Internet Access is $2.03 on its three-year plan and protects desktops and mobile devices.
3. Epic browser
Best choice to unlock BBC iPlayer
reasons to buy
Eight VPN Locations
Unlock BBC iPlayer
Encrypted proxy below
Open and transparent developer
reasons to avoid
Default search engine for Yahoo!
Few updates in recent years
Epic Browser claims to be the first Chromium-based browser designed to protect your privacy. It is running permanently in ‘private browsing’ mode, with all the regular Google tracking technologies removed and custom blocking of WebRTC IP address leaks, fingerprint scripts, encryption secret code and more.
Epic has ad blocking built in and a VPN of sorts too (the site describes it as an ‘encrypted proxy’). are advantages too. You can use it without registration, there are no data limits and you have eight countries to choose from: USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, India and Singapore.
The company is more open and transparent than most. You don’t wonder who’s behind it, for example. The website About Us (opens in new tab) The page informs users about the company that develops the product, its founder, and lists some of the Internet’s big names as consultants (Slashdot founder Rob Malda, privacy advocate Douglas Rushkoff.)
There are disadvantages too. The default search engine for Yahoo! it’s not ideal for a privacy browser (you can replace it with Epic’s PrivateSearch for $2.50 a month). The project also seems a bit neglected: Epic’s blog has only seen one post since 2018.
Still, Epic performed reasonably well for us. VPN speeds were good and it unblocked some sites – we could even use it as a BBC iPlayer VPN for example.
4. UR Browser
Great for users who want a variety of built-in security features
reasons to buy
Long list of privacy and security extras
Easy to use
reasons to avoid
VPN requires registration
Automatically becomes the default Windows browser
Locations do not always return IP addresses for countries you expect
UR Browser is a Chromium-powered app with a long list of built-in security features: anti-phishing, built-in virus scanning for downloads, http to https redirects, random user agents, and cookie, tracker, and ad blocking.
Even better, there’s a free VPN with no data caps and 16 locations to choose from (North America, Europe, India, Singapore, South Africa, Brazil, and more).
There are problems too. UR Browser sets itself as the default browser on Windows, for example, and runs when the device boots, unless you notice these installer options and disable them. We prefer apps that don’t make these system-level changes unless you specifically request them.
Although UR Browser has a built-in VPN, you cannot use it until you register. This isn’t difficult – just hand over your email and choose a password – but Epic Browser and a few others let you use their VPN without giving out any personal details.
VPN speeds were variable – we saw anything from around 2 to 35 Mbps depending on the location chosen, so this will never make our VPN list any faster – and the unblocking results were poor. This could be because UR Browser servers are not always where they are claimed; when we first connected to the US VPN, we were given an IP address from Greece.
UR Browser will not replace your standalone VPN anytime soon. But its network of 16 locations is more than you’ll get with most of the competition, and there are plenty of extras to explore.
How to choose the best browsers with built-in VPN for you
If you’re looking for the best browser with a built-in VPN, chances are you’re doing it for convenience, knowing that a browser-hosted VPN won’t come with the bells and whistles provided by specialist providers like NordVPN or ExpressVPN.
Assuming you’re satisfied with a basic level of VPN functionality, there are several options to choose from. if you’re reluctant to sign up or provide login details, Opera’s easy-to-use option can be attractive, with standard functions that include ad blocking, file sharing, and no log messages. If you’re looking for a browser-based VPN for your smartphone, Aloha’s browser is adapted for smartphone use only and comes with no data limits. I
Before you make your choice, be clear what you intend the VPN to be used for (Opera is not good at unblocking iPlayer Steam, for example, while Epic Browser is) and make sure you are not expecting too much from it. a feature that is unlikely to compete with standalone VPNs.
The Best Browsers With Built-in VPN: How We Tested
Recognizing that even the best browsers with built-in VPN are not able to match the offering provided by standalone services, we nevertheless follow the rule about top browsers with VPN capabilities and list the advantages – and relevant disadvantages – for each listed here.
Given that convenience is likely to be a significant factor behind the desire for such a feature, we tested the ease of use of these browsers and how quickly they install and run.
We also look at overall speeds for connections in the US and UK and consider whether users can select where they want to appear from. We list where there are data caps (or none) and whether VPNs incur costs for additional features or services. We also look at whether browser-based VPNs include the capability that really sets them alongside feature-laden standalone VPN services – being able to unblock streaming sites.
If you’re wondering how to watch today’s Apple event, where the Cupertino company is set to launch the iPhone 14 lineup, the Apple Watch 8 and likely several other new products, then we’ve got you covered.
The event starts today, September 7, at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST (or 03:00 EST on Thursday, September 8), and will be broadcast live from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
While we’ll be there in person (make sure to check our Apple Event live blog for moment-to-moment updates), you don’t have to miss out as we’ll show you how you can watch the Apple Event from wherever you are.
What time is Apple’s Far Out event – including UK and Australia?
The Apple Far Out event is scheduled to start in 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST on Wednesday, September 7th – that’s 03:00 on Thursday, September 8 for those in Australia’s AEST time zone.
It will likely last between one and two hours (and as we expect to see up to eight new devices, it will certainly be very close to the top of that estimate).
So make sure you settle in with some good snacks and plenty of hydration options…
How to watch Apple event and iPhone 14 launch online
Apple events are easy to watch live these days, and the Apple Far Out event is no exception, with the simplest method being just to go to YouTube, where Apple will stream the show live.
with ease, the YouTube live stream page (opens in new tab) as this is already active, so you can set a reminder on the page or just bookmark it.
To make things even easier, you can watch the event in the YouTube embedded video above, so you don’t even have to leave this page.
You can also watch the event at Apple website (opens in new tab)which already has page up for the event, or through the Apple TV app – which still doesn’t have page up – or on Apple developer (opens in new tab) app, which we would say is the most specific way to tune in.
And remember, unlike in years gone by, this isn’t a locked event just for those on an Apple device with the Safari browser – it’s open to everyone now, so there’s no reason not to watch it.
What to expect from today’s Apple event
We expect to see a lot at Apple’s Far Out event, but the iPhone 14 lineup is sure to be the star of the show. This is believed to include not just the iPhone 14 itself, but also an iPhone 14 Pro, an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and – new this year – an iPhone 14 Max or iPhone 14 Plus.
This latest model is said to be basically a standard iPhone 14, but with a larger 6.7-inch screen, and is believed to be landing in the place of an iPhone 14 mini.
Most updates will be limited to Pro models, with rumors of a new 48MP main camera, a screen cutout instead of a notch, an improved ultra-wide camera, and a more powerful chipset. Most or all iPhone 14 models may have a larger battery than their predecessors.
We also expect to see the Apple Watch 8, Apple Watch SE 2 and an Apple Watch Pro. Leaks suggest the SE 2 might get a new chipset and not much else, while the Apple Watch 8 might also get some new features, topped off by a body temperature sensor.
The Apple Watch Pro may have the same features as the Apple Watch 8, but combined with a larger screen and battery, as well as a more robust, premium build, including a titanium case. This is expected to come with a very high price tag, which, coupled with a likely bulky build, could make it a bit of a niche product.
That’s not all, though, according to some sources, Apple will also introduce the AirPods Pro 2, complete with improved active noise cancellation and possibly Hi-Res Audio support, but there probably won’t be much change to the design of the original AirPods Pro. .
It’s not impossible that other things will also be announced, such as the HomePod 2 or AirPods 4, but these seem less likely these days. If anything comes in the HomePod world, it would likely be a new HomePod mini as it seems more popular.
Aside from the hardware, we’ll also likely see the release of iOS 16 in finished form (complete with the always-on display that will seep into the iPhone 14 Pro lineup) – although iPadOS 16 is confirmed to arrive a little later.
What We Probably Won’t See at Apple’s Far Out Event
While much is to be expected at Apple’s Far Out event, there are also some high-profile devices we don’t expect to see.
Chief among these are the new iPads, despite the fact that an iPad Pro (2022) and a new iPad (2022) are likely to arrive soon.
That’s because leaks currently suggest they’ll arrive in a separate event in October – which might make sense given that Wednesday’s launch already looks potentially overloaded. So between these two releases, it could be a very busy couple of months for Apple.
These iPads can land next to a new Mac Mini, new Mac Pro, and new MacBook Pro, if Mark Gurman – a journalist and leaker with a great track record at Apple – is to be believed.
We probably won’t see the launch of the long-running Apple VR headset at any of the events – with 2023 currently looking more likely, although you’ll never know it might at least be teased this year.
Other devices like the upcoming iPad mini and iPhone SE 4 will also likely not arrive until 2023, or potentially even later in the case of the SE 4.
Want to know how to clean a mattress topper? If you answered yes to this question, you are in the right place. This guide will walk you through the steps you need to take to keep your topper looking like new.
As we explain in our guide to this year’s edition best mattressesThese must-have accessories can breathe new life into an old bed, offering a cost-effective alternative to investing in one of the best mattresses around. They can also be used to change your mattress’s sleep sensation or increase your mattress’s comfort levels. For example, the Tuft & Needle Mattress Topper pictured above is great for making a firm mattress softer.
But like any bedding, they need care to keep them hygienic and performing at their best. While most current best mattress protectors can be put in the washing machine, cleaning a mattress is a little more complicated. “The average person will spend nearly 19,000 hours sleeping on the same mattress,” Jonathan Warren, director and bedding expert at Time4Sleep (opens in new tab) it says. “But they rarely clean their mattress toppers – if they do. Ensuring your mattress topper is kept clean is an easy way to ensure you get a great night’s sleep.”
So, to find out how to clean a mattress from start to finish, what happens if you don’t, and how often you should update your mattress depending on material and usage rate, read on.
Do I need to clean my mattress pad?
In short, yes. When you think about it, your mattress is the first line of defense between you and your mattress. Meaning? Your mattress is exposed to dust, dead skin, body oils, sweat, stains and spills.
And unfortunately, if left dirty, a bed topper can become a mecca for dust mites, bugs, bacteria, and other nasty things you certainly don’t want in your sleeping space. But don’t just take our word for it. Warren tells us, “The average person can sweat up to 22 gallons a year while they sleep, so it’s essential that we make a clean environment.”
While Martin Seeley, CEO of mattressNext day (opens in new tab) adds, “Many mattresses are made from absorbent materials such as memory foam, feathers and latex. If not cleaned from time to time, dirty mattresses can cause skin irritation or give off an unpleasant odor.”
It is the same with all bedding such as pillows, comforters and sheets as well as the mattress itself. Washing frequency depends on the item (see our guides on how to clean a mattress and how to clean a pillow for more information and advice).
How often should I clean my mattress pad?
You should clean your mattress every two months. “A thorough mattress cleaning every month or two can help combat any allergy flare-ups you may be experiencing at bedtime and generally improve your overall health and sleep quality,” adds Warren.
How to clean a mattress topper: step by step
Ready to say goodbye to leftover stains and welcome a fresh-looking (and smelling) mattress topper? Here is our step-by-step guide.
1. Remove dirt and debris
The first step in the process of cleaning your mattress? Check for debris that may be on the surface of your topper. Whether it’s dirt, dust or pet hair, get a vacuum and vacuum up every crumb you find.
2. Prepare your weapons
Next, it’s time to gather the products you need so you can clean large, old, or stubborn stains. Warren’s Best Choice of Cleaning Products for Removing Tough Stains? “Sodium bicarbonate and mattress cleaning spray,” he says. “[They] doesn’t stain and neutralizes stubborn odors.”
Baking soda – also known in the US as sodium bicarbonate, but not to be confused with bicarbonate in powder in the UK – is one of the best products to have around the house for cleaning. It’s a natural cleanser, which means you won’t get harsh chemicals close to your skin, and it also helps eliminate odors.
But along with baking soda and mattress cleaning spray, you can also clean it with a small amount of washing powder.
3. Clean tough stains
Once you’ve gathered your cleaning supplies, it’s now time to get to work. If you are using laundry detergent, use a small amount of laundry detergent and equal parts water in a bowl. Or, if you’re determined to use mattress cleaning spray, be sure to read the instructions on the back of the product before spraying your mattress.
Warren tells us, “Swipe the stain from the outside in (so you don’t accidentally increase the stain) and let the spray do its magic before wiping with a damp cloth.”
4. Bet on sodium bicarbonate
“When it comes to mattress cleaning tips, baking soda is your knight in shining armor,” says Warren. To give stains and smells an extra dose of cleaning, take your baking soda and spread it all over your mattress and let it sit for up to 24 hours. Or, as Warren advises, “As long as you can. After all, we need sleep.”
After leaving your mattress with the mattress cleaner and baking soda on it, grab your vacuum and get ready to take a look. As Jonathan explains, “Run the vacuum along the mattress and give it a good shake, this will pick up any lingering dust or dirt that’s stuck.”
6. Allow to air dry
Once you’ve completed the steps above, let your mattress topper air dry for as long as you need, until it’s completely dry.
7. Rotate your topper
But before you rush to return your mattress to your bed, be sure to rotate your mattress 180 degrees. This will help prolong its lifespan and ensure that you use it evenly without it falling off in the same spots.
You finished! So don’t leave your mattress cleaning for later. Especially now that you know how to clean a mattress topper and how easy it is to do.
The biggest beer race of all time: important information
– Available now on Apple TV Plus – Based on the true story of John “Chickie” Donohue, who traveled to Vietnam to hand-deliver a beer to all his friends who served in the war – Written and directed by Green Book Oscar winner Peter Farrelly – Stars Zac Efron as Chickie – Russell Crowe and Bill Murray have supporting roles
Vietnam changed the way Hollywood handled the war. While WWII movies predominantly celebrated Allied soldiers (aka the good guys) overcoming the forces of evil, the long-running conflict in the Far East was not so easy to classify. Many of Vietnam’s best films (Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, Platoon) were made about a decade after the end of the war, when it was still raw and part of the public consciousness. As a result, the filmmakers weren’t just exploring the horrors of war, but the social consequences and political motivations of battles fought halfway around the world.
You’d think a few more decades of contemplation would provide a whole new perspective on a war that ended nearly five decades ago – like the one Spike Lee brought to 2020’s emotional, visceral and highly political Da 5 Bloods (available on Netflix). Unfortunately, The Greatest Beer Run Ever’s ambitions aren’t that great, because for most of its runtime, war is a mild inconvenience, a backdrop for a reckless trip with occasional fireworks displays. And while the film walks with its classic Vietnam iconography — the helicopters, the napalm, a 1960s iTunes playlist — it also has very little to say. War is hell, the old saying goes, but it has rarely been so shallow.
Based on a true story?
As implausible as the film makes its adventures seem, The Greatest Beer Run Ever is actually based on the true story of merchant seaman John “Chickie” Donohue. After chatting with some friends at his local pub in New York, he promises to thank all the local boys who serve in Vietnam by handing them a beer. Before long, he got a job on a freighter bound for Saigon and got 72 hours of leave to transport his inebriated cargo across a war-torn country. If Captain Willard was chasing Colonel Kurtz with “extreme prejudice” in Apocalypse Now, Chickie’s mission is more about “extreme whimsy”.
It’s worth noting that, before winning the Oscar for the divisive Green Book, writer/director Peter Farrelly was best known for making hugely successful comedies like Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary with his brother, Bobby. We mention this because the movie version of Chickie is as dumb as Harry, Lloyd or any of his other intentionally ridiculous creations.
His lack of awareness of the dangers of being a war zone with no orders and no documents never rings true, nor does his failure to grasp the idea that his actions can kill someone – it’s not endearing, it’s just crass. Zac Efron brings a certain charm to the role, but Chickie never feels like a real person as he pinballs around US Army bases like a painfully unconscious, mustachioed Forrest Gump. “Don’t worry about him,” a sergeant tells his troops. “Every now and then you run into a guy who’s too dumb to be killed.” Or they already existed in the first place…
If Chickie fails to convince as a character, he’s far from the least believable thing about the film. Despite being halfway around the world, he has a habit of bumping into people he meets with such implausible regularity that it feels like Vietnam is New York’s sixth borough. And then there’s the shoulder bag he carries effortlessly across the country despite being filled with enough beer to “hammer” a group of soldiers, with plenty of cans to spare. Either Chickie is gifted with Marvel super-strength levels, or he borrowed his purse from Mary Poppins.
But by far the film’s biggest crime is an overly simplistic and patronizing take on the Vietnam War, which assumes that no one watching has any idea of the story behind it. At first, Chickie and his friends (including Bill Murray, a WWII veterinary bar owner) are quick to shut down any criticism of President Lyndon B Johnson, the war, or the possible motives behind it, whether it’s TV news or Protestant students.
But the two sides of the argument – why is America stopping communism or spreading imperialism? – are painted with brush strokes so wide that it’s never clear which side Farrelly is on. It’s only in the film’s final act that The Greatest Beer Run Ever makes any sort of stand, and it takes Russell Crowe’s weary photojournalist to spell things out in the simplest possible terms to give Chickie a belated warning. The movie finally has the guts to say, yes, war really is a bad thing, but no one got the memo explaining that showing is usually better than telling. Then again, this is not a film that deals in nuance.
There’s nothing wrong with films that take a lighter approach to the theater of war, and films like M*A*S*H, Three Kings and Dr. Subject. But the greatest beer race of all time is neither funny nor dramatic, and ultimately seems as futile as traveling thousands of miles to give someone a beer who could easily have one anyway.
The Greatest Beer Run Ever is now available on Apple TV Plus worldwide.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless: One Minute Review
If you’ve seen the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless, you’ll know this is more than just the Arctis 7 with a fresh coat of paint. It may retain the overall design of its predecessor, but the earcups and headband are scaled back for a sleeker, more ergonomic package. No wonder it is 14% lighter.
There are many changes beyond its aesthetics as well. It can connect to multiple sources simultaneously. It has fast charging features. And, thanks to the Sonar software suite, it has the kind of sound customization that lets you customize the sound beyond anything you could have done with the Arctis 7. It still has some of the DNA of the previous model, good and bad, including that slightly underwhelming bass, but there’s enough to like that you might consider upgrading even if you own its predecessor.
Although it does not reach the same auditory heights as the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wirelessthe Arctis Nova 7 Wireless is still a stellar entry into the supersaturated world of gaming headphones – even if it costs a little more than it should.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless: Pricing and Availability
How much does it cost? $179 (£174, about AU$310)
When is it available? Available now
Where can you get it? Available in the US, UK and Australia
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless: SPECIFICATIONS
Interface: 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth, 3.5mm Compatibility: Windows, Mac, PS4/5, Meta Quest 2, mobile devices MIC: Two-way noise canceling The sound around: Microsoft Spatial Sound / Tempest 3D Audio for PS5 Weight: 11.45 ounces (325 g)
The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless, which entered the market in late August 2022, is far from the cheapest of SteelSeries’ Nova gaming headsets. That honor goes to the much more stripped-down Arctis 1, which costs $59 (£59, about AU$69). And while it’s not the most expensive headset either, it will cost a decent amount with a price tag of $179 (£174, about AU$310).
Along with the 7P and 7X, the console-oriented versions of the same headset, it’s a solid performer (you can certainly find worse headsets for the same price). But given the competition and what it offers, a price closer to $150/£150 would be more appropriate.
Of course, the most expensive Nova headset, the Nova Pro Wireless, retails for $349 (£329, about AU$649). However, it does come with a wow factor that we would be happy to pay a lot for it.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless: Design
Lots of customization available
The clamping force is a little too light
Compatible with most devices
While the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless is more than just a light upgrade, you can still see the general outline of previous SteelSeries headphones in its design. The earcups are oval where they meet the ear pads, and the earcup even comes with replaceable ski goggle straps and earcup plates. It also uses similar materials, such as durable plastic for the earcups and metal for the headband (PVD-coated steel in the Nova 7’s case). That’s where most of the similarities end.
Unlike the Arctis 7, the earcups are thinner, save for the raised circular portions that house the replaceable earcup plates. These small circular plates act as a highlight rather than covering the entire outer surface like the ones on Arctis 7 do.
The steel band is thinner, as are the ski goggle band inserts. They just need to snap into place from the inside, ditching that iconic velcro, wraparound design.
Both the headphones and ski goggle straps are completely replaceable with several different colors available from SteelSeries. This lets you customize the Nova 7 Wireless far beyond what you can do with most headphones, although you’ll need to buy them separately.
All the controls you could ever want are at your fingertips. The right side houses the power and Bluetooth buttons, as well as the chat mix and USB-C port, while the left side has the microphone mute, volume dial and 3.5mm audio jack. . The retractable microphone is also on the left earcup and stays flush when stowed away.
Ergonomically, there’s enough swivel and height adjustment to accommodate virtually any head shape. You can even rotate the earcups if you want to toss the earphone in a backpack. When using Arctis Nova 7, however, it has a glaring problem. There’s not enough grip strength to hold it in place during intense moments. If you move your head quickly, it will slide a little. While it doesn’t fly, we would have preferred a slightly tighter fit. After all, you can loosen the clamping force on a headset, but you cannot tighten it.
It’s still surprisingly comfortable to wear despite this issue. The ski goggle headband prevents the steel headband from pressing down on your head, while the airweave memory foam pads are soft and keep you from feeling fatigued even after wearing them for long periods. However, having also tested the Nova Pro Wireless, we prefer the soft faux leather covering its ear cushions to the thicker fabric here. Considering the price, a softer fabric would have given a higher value.
Considering all the connectivity of the Nova 7 Wireless, it’s no surprise that you can connect it to virtually any system. The USB-C dongle allows you to use the headset with a PC, PlayStation or Switch, while you can use the Bluetooth feature for Mac, tablets and phones. Of course, you can also connect it to any analog device thanks to the 3.5mm connection.
One of the benefits of having such a wide range of connectivity is the ability to connect to multiple devices at the same time, and SteelSeries has made that a feature here. Its multi-device and multi-platform support allows you to connect to a wireless source and a Bluetooth source simultaneously, so you can take an important call in the middle of a battle without having to pick up your phone.
As it has such simultaneous connectivity, SteelSeries decided to include separate buttons for power and Bluetooth. If you are connected to a Bluetooth source and use the power button to turn it off, the headset will still receive this Bluetooth signal. You have to press that Bluetooth button to turn it off.
If you expect to use it for anything else, it also comes with a 3.5mm port for wired connectivity. In essence, you can connect the Nova 7 Wireless to just about anything, although if you want wireless connectivity to an Xbox, you have to get the Nova 7x.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless: Performance
Very good, if a little neutral, sound quality
Plenty of battery life, including fast charging
good microphone sound
There are headphones and headsets that sound more fun with enhanced bass and treble, and others that sound more neutral. The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless sits firmly in the last field. The mids are perfect and the bass is present enough for you to feel them, even if they are quieter than we like. Meanwhile, the high end is detailed if slightly veiled.
You can hear everything clearly and as intended. It doesn’t compare to the cleaner, stronger sound of the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless. But it offers pretty accurate audio that’s immersive when your ears adjust to the more neutral sound.
Along with audio quality, microphone quality is a crucial consideration with headphones. The boom mic sounds loud, clear and very present, with just a little bit of voice compression. Essentially, it sounds great. It picks up background noise, but not at a volume that is distracting or will affect how others hear your voice. And there’s some AI noise cancellation available through the software.
When testing, we used the microphone without retracting it from the headset. Of course, the mic quality suffered a bit, but our voice still came out clearly, just not as loud, a little more compressed, and as if it was further away. The microphone also picks up much more background noise this way.
Battery life is also an important factor. Fortunately, it’s very stellar here. While you can’t change the batteries like with the Pro Wireless, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless offers 38 hours of battery life. That’s about five days of play if you put in eight hours a day. It also offers fast charging via USB-C. With just 15 minutes of charging, you get an extra six hours of use.
We are impressed with some of the software-related features that come with Arctis, most notably the new Sonar Audio Software Suite. It is an add-on to the SteelSeries GG Engine and provides much more control. You can adjust microphone volume, game volume, chat volume, chat mix and more. You can also enable ClearCast AI noise cancellation here.
More importantly, it gives you access to a parametric EQ. This means you can not only adjust the boost or cut of individual EQ bands, but also change what frequencies you are adjusting, as well as add more bands to play with. This is much deeper and more customizable than the usual five-band equalizer that most headphones offer. Please be aware that these customizations are only available when you are connected to a PC and using the app.
Should I buy SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless?
Don’t buy if…
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless: bulletin
While the Nova 7 Wireless is a very solid headset and better than much of the competition, we think it should be a little cheaper.
3.5 / 5
It’s a versatile and stylish headphone. It is also lighter than its predecessor.
It sounds great with a good quality mic, excellent battery life, and great software customization.
Although a little pricey, it’s a great versatile headset that will impress more.

The Honor Pad 8 breaks a fundamental law in the tablet world: despite having an ‘8’ in the name, it doesn’t have an 8-inch screen.
When you remember that the Amazon Fire HD 10 has a 10-inch screen, Lenovo Tab P11 has an 11-inch screen and the iPad Pro 12.9 has a 12.9-inch panel, it seems shocking to pick up the Honor Pad 8 and find a device with a 12-inch LCD staring back at you.
The name is likely due to the fact that it is a successor to the Honor Pad 7, but this tablet numerical naming strategy is a rarity compared to the competition.
If you’re wondering why we’re focusing on the Honor Pad 8’s name instead of any of its features, you’ve started to understand the problem with this tablet; there’s little that’s really impressive or appealing about this Android tablet other than its misname.
It’s a cheap tablet, but not as affordable as an Amazon Fire or Samsung Galaxy A. It offers a big screen, but not significantly more so than Lenovo’s or Nokia’s alternatives. It has a long battery life, but outside of the iPad, most tablets do.
A few years ago, the Honor Pad 8 would have been an intriguing model, but after the Covid-induced tablet boom of 2020 and 2021, this is a flooded market and Honor has failed to create a tablet that really stands out.
The Honor Pad 8 might be a more tempting option if it at least rules the ‘cheap tablet’ roost, but it does have some annoying issues that even similarly priced rivals like the Xiaomi Pad 5 avoid.
On the one hand, it’s very slow, making gaming or other intensive processes unpleasant. The Snapdragon 680 here just doesn’t work unless for some reason you like your games often freezing up or crashing.
Software is also an issue. Android doesn’t naturally fit into the larger form of tablets, and while some tablet makers have tweaked the stock formula to create their own more suitable software, Honor evidently hasn’t reached that point. Its version of Android feels awkward to use on a large device and would be better suited for a smartphone.
Despite not standing out from the crowd, the Honor Pad 8 has a few things going for it. The large screen and long battery life make the tablet good for streaming or simple work tasks like checking emails or writing text documents (well, if you buy a third-party Bluetooth keyboard – the only accessory Honor is selling is a simple case).
For some people, these tasks are all you want in a tablet, and if that’s you, the Honor Pad 8 will be a good budget option. But there are many other equally viable options on the market for these buyers as well.
Honor Pad 8 pricing and availability
Unveiled at the IFA 2022 annual technology event in September 2022, the Honor Pad 8 went on sale immediately afterwards.
The tablet costs £269.99 in the UK. That converts to around $320 or AU$460, although Honor doesn’t sell products in the US and rarely in Australia, so don’t expect to see it on sale there.
At this price, the slate is more expensive than members of Amazon’s Fire, Samsung’s Galaxy A, or Lenovo’s Tab P11 lines, but more affordable than the entry-level iPad or Xiaomi Pad 5. It’s still a pretty low price for a tablet.
That’s a tablet with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage – not much choice if you want more power or storage, although expandable memory up to 512GB can solve most storage problems.
Honor Pad 8 design
Compared to many other Android tablets on the market, the Honor Tab 8 is quite large and you certainly won’t be using it with one hand.
Beyond that, though, it’s your standard-looking tablet. It has a USB-C port (although there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack – sorry, wired audio fans) and four speakers all around. On the back, there’s a camera protrusion that doesn’t stick out too much, so the slate can practically lie flat.
It feels very premium to hold thanks to the glass material. However, due to its size, we don’t recommend using it with your hands – it’s best to buy a keyboard stand or accessory and use it resting on a surface.
Honor Pad 8 screen
As we mentioned, the Honor Pad 8 has a 12-inch screen. That screen size makes it one of the biggest tablets we’ve ever seen, save for premium models like the iPad Pro 12.9 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus or Ultra.
The resolution is 1200 x 2000, which technically counts as 2K, although the use of LCD technology and 60Hz refresh rate means it’s not the prettiest screen on the market.
Still, if you care about size rather than quality, this is a good tablet for you, and people who just want to view documents or work don’t necessarily care.
Honor Pad 8 cameras
The Honor tablet has a 5MP front camera and 5MP rear camera. Of course, you’re probably not buying this for photography, because even a cheap phone has better snappers, but they’re good for the purpose.
For scanning documents, video calling and scanning QR codes, these cameras are all you need, especially since many other tablets don’t even offer 5MP resolution. You can also use the front camera for face unlock, which was reliable during our testing.
Honor Pad 8 performance
Our main gripe with the Honor Pad 8 is that it felt sluggish – slower, in fact, than other similarly priced slates.
There’s a Snapdragon 680 chipset here, which is admittedly low-end, but doesn’t feel quite as sluggish in other gadgets (mostly smartphones) we’ve used it on. It’s paired with 4GB of RAM, which in itself isn’t a red flag, but they don’t work well here.
The tablet often feels slow to navigate, but the issues were worse for things like games or heavier apps. We tried to play Northgard and it kept crashing and crashing and even crashing and this is not the most sophisticated game we normally try.
Again, for some people, performance is not important, but sometimes it made the user experience a little frustrating.
There’s 128GB of storage, which isn’t too bad for a tablet at this price point, and will likely be enough for most users – if you need more, a microSD card slot gives you up to 512GB of extra space.
HonorPad 8 Software
Software is the defining feature for tablets, and the Magic UI designed by Honor unfortunately falls on the ‘break’ side of things.
This is an Android fork, specifically Android 12. Many other brands that fork Android add their own useful features as stock Android is not well optimized for tablets, and this is even more important for these big screen gadgets .
The Magic UI was not optimized for the tablet’s 12-inch screen, making the software experience quite frustrating. You have to make massive movements to jump between menus, there’s just a sliding menu that houses notifications and settings (unlike iPadOS or MIUI for Pad, both of which have separate notification lists and quick settings depending on where you swipe down).
Widgets and app icons also take up a lot of space on the homepage, which means navigating menus can be annoying. Browsing this tablet is just a pain.
Honor Pad 8 battery life
If there’s one surprising point in favor of the Honor Pad 8, it’s that the battery life is surprisingly good.
There’s a 7,250mAh power pack, which might be considered small for a tablet with a giant 12-inch screen, but it performed admirably in our tests – this thing will outlast an iPad with little difficulty.
Charging isn’t particularly fast, at 22.5W, but fast charging hasn’t made it to the tablet world yet.
The Cooler Master GD160 ARGB might be expensive, but there’s a reason. This considerable game table offers something you’ll be hard pressed to find anywhere else: ARGB. While you can get RGB add-ons to spruce up any table, few have them built into the table itself. This means you can adjust your bright lighting without investing and installing extra add-ons.
Since this table will slow you down a bit, it needs to do more than just provide colorful lighting. It should offer features we’ve come to expect from gaming tables of this caliber, such as excellent cable management. And, for being a standing tablehe needs to be able to handle his equipment, especially during height adjustments.
He does a great job with the latter, and while he could have done better with the former, he still did a decent job. The only question is, will this, along with its customizable RGB, be enough to justify the price? That’s what we’re here to find out.

The Cooler Master GD160 ARGB is available in the US, UK and Australia, and it will cost you a little more than most of the competition. At $899 / £699 / AU$1,399, this table is in the upper price range for gaming tables. And it won’t be of much value if you don’t have much use for permanent functionality or built-in ARGB.
There are already some great gaming tables for a lot less, like the Secretlab Magnus Metal Desk. It may not have this permanent functionality, but it does have excellent cable management, as well as a variety of modular add-ons for a cleaner, more organized setup. These add-ons will cost extra, but the base table will only cost $499 / £399 / AU$679.
Of course, Secretlab has its own sit-to-stand gaming table, the Secretlab Magnus Pro XL metal table, and that costs $949 / £829 / AU$1,229. And that’s without any RGB lighting included in the box.
Cooler Master GD160 ARGB: Assembly
The table comes in two heavy boxes
Assembly is simple despite its many parts
The instructions are clear
We appreciate that the Cooler Master GD160 ARGB is shipped in two boxes as they have a combined weight of around 150 pounds (68 kg). We move and set up our share of gaming tables, and having to move heavy boxes is never easy.
Fortunately, assembly is quite simple. While it comes in many individual parts – far more than we’ve seen before on a self-assembling gaming table – the instructions are clear and easy to follow. They could have been printed a little bigger considering how detailed some of the illustrations are.
Not only does the table need power, but so does the computer and monitor. So when setting up the table, make sure you are close to an outlet. And make sure these cables have enough slack to stay connected no matter what height adjustments you make.
Cooler Master GD160 ARGB: Design
Its large size can accommodate many devices
Cable management tray is a little tight
ARGB is the star of the show here
With a table top measuring 160 x 75 cm (63 x 29.5 inches), the Cooler Master GD160 ARGB has more than enough table space for most people. Have a two or three monitor setup? There’s a lot of space here. And because it’s made from sturdier materials, you don’t have to worry about overloading the table.
The legs, frame and finish are made of aluminum and steel. While the inch-thick table top is chipboard, it’s coated with a lightly textured laminate finish that’s resistant to fingerprints and scratches – but not as resistant to drink moisture. These marks eventually fade, but they remain for a while, even when you try to rub them vigorously.
Like most gaming tables, it is mostly black with a gray finish. However, being a Cooler Master product, the finish on the sides of the table comes in that specific shade of purple found in many of their products.
There’s cable management, of course. A 20-inch-wide rubber-lined slot sits near the back of the table so you can feed all of your equipment’s various cables to an aluminum cable management tray underneath it. This opening is big enough for cables, but the tray is a little tight. At 23.6 inches wide and 7.9 inches deep (60 x 20 cm), it’s not big enough to house a stabilizer or more than one power pack. So while you’ll have no problem keeping your desk clean and beautiful, you’ll have to do some creative organization to get all the cables in order in the tray.
On the plus side, the Cooler Master includes an extra large water-repellent mousepad with the table. Measures 900 x 300 millimeters. Its densely knitted surface allows gaming mice to glide effortlessly, while its large size provides a little extra cushioning for hands and wrists and a little extra protection for the table surface.
The digital controller, situated under the edge of the table, is very easy to use. There’s a small screen showing its current height and seven buttons (up, down, 1, 2, 3, M and A), plus a USB port with side charging capability. Up and Down control the current height of the table while the numbered buttons correlate to custom presets. The M button stands for height memory function and is what you will use to create a preset. Finally, the A button lets you cycle through the ARGB effects, including five presets and a custom setup, without needing to open the software.
Of course, the star of the show here is the Dual ARGB smart lighting. For quick definition, ARGB, or addressable RGB, lets you customize each individual LED, something that can only really be experienced with smaller peripherals like backlit gaming keyboards.
With this table, you have 192 individual zones to play in – 96 along the front edge of the table top and 96 at the back. Since the front edge is angled downwards, you’ll get lots of bright lighting without being overshadowed by it. To complete the immersion, the back edge is angled upwards so that the ARGB reflects off the back wall. You can configure it to mirror screen colors in real-time or sync it with your other Cooler Master peripherals to display corresponding lighting modes.
If you have a USB port available on your PC, however, you should take advantage of it as you can tweak these presets, especially since most of them are set to a light kind of purple – so light it almost looks white – by default. You can also customize each of these 192 lighting zones for this custom lighting setup, although it is still a static color.
Cooler Master GD160 ARGB: Performance
Smooth and fast, though not silent, operation
It comes with some solid security features
The height range is great for most people
You’re not just paying more for ARGB. As a standing desk, the Cooler Master GD160 ARGB moves quickly and smoothly, with its current height displayed in real-time on the control screen. As it uses dual motors for operation, it’s not the quietest table, but it’s not annoyingly noisy either. Considering it can easily support a load of up to 220 pounds (100 kg), the sound of both engines is certainly easy to forgive. So if you want to put some monitors and a PC in here, the table can scale up and down its setup all day with no problem.
Just as important, the Cooler Master GD160 ARGB comes with some crucial security features built in. It has a failsafe that locks the height when the power is suddenly cut, if you are experiencing an outage or accidentally unplugging the table.
Meanwhile, the anti-collision feature will prevent the table from hitting objects. As soon as it collides with you, your PC or anything else, it will immediately stop moving, then adjust a hair in the other direction to avoid further damage. The sensitivity of table collision detection can be adjusted and turned off.
We had an issue with the sensitivity of the collision avoidance feature. We found that it will only detect if the table top is feeling an equal or heavier opposing force. Anything in his path that he can master, he does when he’s moving. It’s also not that quick to react. We put a big box full of stuff under it, and the box actually lifted the table on one side before the table reacted and readjusted itself. Take care of your limbs when making height adjustments!
Just as important as the sit-to-stand motion is the actual height range. The height range on this table goes from 65cm to 130cm. Even if you don’t plan on sitting or standing, you can sit much more comfortably at this table than most.
Should I buy the Cooler Master GD160 ARGB?
Don’t buy if…
Cooler Master GD160 ARGB: Bulletin
It’s among the most expensive gaming tables on the market, but the only one that comes with permanent functionality and ARGB lighting.
While its cable management tray could be bigger, it makes up for it with premium construction and immersive lighting.
It comes with some solid safety features, operates quickly and smoothly, and has an adjustable height range that is ideal for most people.
While it has a few shortcomings, this is a solid table that performs as advertised, not to mention it comes with a unique feature players won’t find anywhere else.
